Translated Tuesday: Episode 5 (All The Light We Cannot See)

Hope everyone is having a lovely day! Click here for episode one of this fun little series, and please enjoy these funny translated extracts of All The Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr (a stunning book – see my review for it here).

Original:

The air swarms with so much that is invisible!

Improved:

Roy studies like the wind!

I’m really not being funny – this is exactly what came out!

Original:

How do you ever know for certain that you are doing the right thing?

Improved:

You already know what you’re getting?

Original:

So many windows are dark. It’s as if the city has become a library of books in an unknown language, the houses great shelves of illegible volumes, the lamps all extinguished.

Improved:

Many dark windows. The city is on a book in the library, such as the many places to wash all the lights are out.

Wash the lights!

Original:

See obstacles as opportunities. See obstacles as inspirations.

Improved:

Look for the possibility of obstruction. Look inspired by obstacle.

Look inspired by obstacle!

Original:

Go where intuition takes you.

Improved:

If you need to go natural.

I love that first one! Do you guys have any funny translations? I would love to hear them!

Thank you for reading,

– Catriona
